And they said it couldn't be done...

The Atlantic magazine named Gina Raimondoa (D) one of their 'Brave Thinkers' of 2012 for tackling reforms in her state that most officials won't dare touch. (And she's hugely popular for it.)  This is leadership - great work.

Cowards

Memo to elected Republicans and Democrats in DC: you are cowards! Your pathetic attempts to distract us with your small-idea debate (35% vs 39% tax rate on top 2% of earners, mythical tax reform, etc) is exacerbating the problem. By your own estimates, the ideas currently being considered (by both camps) cover very little of the annual shortfall. Your “economic plans” are pure fantasy. Quit playing it safe and nibbling around the edges. 65% of the entire federal budget is in entitlements (up from 45% in 1990). It's non-partisan...both parties obviously support these programs to one degree or another. It’s time to find some courage and tackle entitlement reform…while we still have options. Get on it.

The Oracle Speaks...

"Twelve members of Congress will soon take on the crucial job of rearranging our country’s finances. They've been instructed to devise a plan that reduces the 10-year deficit by at least $1.5 trillion. It’s vital, however, that they achieve far more than that. Americans are rapidly losing faith in the ability of Congress to deal with our country’s fiscal problems. Only action that is immediate, real and very substantial will prevent that doubt from morphing into hopelessness. That feeling can create its own reality." - Warren Buffett 8/15/11

LOL

According to Gallup, Washington, D.C., led the nation in economic confidence during the first half of 2011 with the ONLY positive Economic Confidence Index score (+11) in the U.S.  The District is the ONLY region in the Union with more confidence - and by a giant margin over the next most confident state (North Dakota at -13).  Could these people be any more disconnected from reality?!?!?

70% ???

According to a new CNN poll, for the first time ever, more than seventy percent of Americans don't believe that their own members of Congress deserve reelection.

Shocker.

"Almost NEVER" ?????

The NBC/Wall Street Journal poll asks the question of 1000 American adults, "How much of the time do you trust government in Washington to do what is right -- just about always, most of the time, some of the time...?"  For over 50 years only 3 - 4% of respondents answered 'almost never'.  In the last two years this number has exploded to over 30%.  Almost one-third of Americans think that Washington ALMOST NEVER does the right thing.  This is not politics (or partisanship) as usual - there is an acute breakdown between the American people and their elected officials.
